Diving into the Readers' Theater Pool This Week

It's been waaaaaaaay too long since I've blogged. . .
because of the first quarter of a new school year.  Yep, I'm making a big fat excuse and blaming all the busyness that only the 1st quarter brings.  And it's now officially 2nd quarter and I already feel a huge weight off my shoulders!  A big part of that busyness is that I'm too involved in things at my school. . .because I have a hard time saying no and I really enjoy doing things like coaching cross country running, putting on a family fun run, creating the yearbook, and being in charge of the high school helper program that our school is fortunate to have.  But now things have slowed down!

This week I'm going to introduce Readers' Theater for the first time.  My higher kids will get to practice it during small reading groups and then perform it to the rest of the class in the afternoon.  This first performance will hopefully interest, exciting and motivate kiddos to want to do the same.  Since it's almost Halloween, I'm starting with one of my FAVORITE books: Room on the Broom, by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler!
This book has also been turned into a magnificently illustrated movie (Hulu).

Happy early Halloween everybody!
