Homework Note FREEBIE

Can you believe it's already August 1st?!  My niece, down in Georgia, started her first day of school today....waaaaaay early I'd say.  I still have another week and a half before I report back but I think I'm going to go in next week and start putting my classroom together.

Being that it's Friday, I'm linking up to

which is hosted by Fern, from Fern Smith's Classroom Ideas!

Here is a cute, funny note that your students can take home to let their parents know that their homework was not turned in on time and needs to be.

I finally jumped in and joined Instagram and Google+.  I'm getting the hang of them and having fun!  Come check it out and follow me :-)

Woah, those images are HUGE....sorry!  Actually, their size goes to show how excited I am for you come to check me out and follow me :-)

Freebie Friday

I'm linking up with

Now that it's summer, I have much more time to work on creating teaching materials.  The first thing I tackled was finishing up my Writing Dude SmartBoard lesson series.  There are 13 lessons that teach important skills and concepts for beginning and progressing writers.  Lesson 10: Proofreading, is my  freebie this week!

Fluency Fix for Manic Monday

I'm linking up again with

Our district started using AimsWeb this year...

and the focus has really been on fluency.  Of course I had my kiddos rereading everything but I felt like there was something missing.  I came up with the idea of writing some short partner plays so kids could practice together during "Read to Someone" time during our Daily 6 groups.  But there always seemed to be an odd number, so I wrote the plays as trios too.  Doing those plays (both during Guided Reading time and Read to Someone time) has really helped many of my kiddos become fluently proficient!

The bonus is that I LOVE creating these scripts (always trying to make them funny), so everybody wins!

Here's a freebie to try if you're curious about what they are -or- if you're using them and enjoying them.

Here are some pictures of how I set up having the partner plays available for student use during our Daily 6 time:

Two Dr. Seuss Partner Plays

Saturday March 2nd is the immortal Dr. Seuss' birthday and I know we're all planning lots of fun things to do with our kiddos to celebrate his literary genius! Add these two partner plays to your list of things to do to bring his books to life.

I've seen lots of cute Dr. Seuss snack ideas, so I'm planning a special snack (that we'll all make) for each day next week.  Of course we'll eat green eggs and ham!
